【Hong Kong Stock Exchange Published Amendments to the ESG Reporting Guide】 How to strengthen the credibility of the contents of ESG reports?


In the Consultation Conclusions on Review of the ESG Reporting Guide and Related Listing Rules issued on December 2019, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange has adopted the proposal of  “Encouraging issuers to seek independent assurance to strengthen the credibility of ESG information disclosed”. With increasing sustainable investments, ESG information is used in conjunction with financial information by management, investors, rating agencies and other analysts to help them make decisions. It is important for ESG information disclosed to be reliable. An external assurance on an ESG report can help improve the credibility of information and readers’ confidence in the ESG information, making it more likely that the data will be relied on and used for decision making.
